Hi, my name is Joshua and I’m a vegetarian.

I like to cook, and I’ve had a lot of experience cooking vegetarian and vegan foods. This blog is a place to share great recipes and show the world that giving up meat in your diet does not mean giving up taste!

I live with my fiancé in Madison, Wisconsin. She is a vegan, which pretty much makes me a vegan too. She also cannot cook. At all. She has therefore developed a kitten-like dependence on me to keep her fed. Luckily for her I love to cook, and I like a good challenge.

Here is a ridiculous picture of us.

No, I’m not a Twilight fan.

I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. My family was the typical ‘meat and potatoes’ type and, like the standard American diet, most meals were centered around meat. I ate meat until I was 21 years old.

When I was in college I was walking along State Street in Madison, Wisconsin where a man from a local Buddhist Temple was giving out books called ‘The Higher Taste’. I was always open to new ideas and lifestyles so I took a copy and read it. This information got me thinking about trying a meat free diet.

I challenged myself to go meat-free for 30 days, which I accomplished and found very satisfying. I became more interested in topics around vegetarianism including environmentalism, health, and ethical treatment of animals.

I have been meat free since September 2008. I live with my fiancee, who is a vegan, and I cook awesome food for her! I’ll share with you the experience and knowledge I’ve gained so you too can level up your vegetarian skills!
